Experience
Waabi · Toronto, ON
Research Intern — Sensor Simulation team · Sep 2025 – Present
- Creating more lifelike 3D models of pedestrians using animatable 3D Gaussians, to improve the realism of our self-driving simulator.
Omnium · Toronto, ON
Data Scientist Intern — R&D team · Jan 2025 – Apr 2025
- Developed a time series model based on computational Bayesian inference with Kalman filters, to jointly estimate the effects of pricing and promotion on sales volume, implemented with Python and JAX.
- Automated a methodology for analysts to predict product discontinuation in R with new LOESS options.
Waabi · Toronto, ON
Research Intern — Sensor Simulation team · Sep 2024 – Dec 2024
- Steered a project on creating digital twins of pedestrians to make our simulator more realistic, under the mentorship of ex-Uber researchers. My results were demoed by CEO Raquel Urtasun at a company offsite.
- Developed a pipeline in Python for 3D reconstruction of pedestrians by fitting a parametric human model to multi-view LiDAR and camera observations, then refining via differentiable rendering with PyTorch3D.
- Improved positioning for static actors by lifting image segmentations to LiDAR point clouds using PyTorch.
Hang Seng University of Hong Kong · Hong Kong (Remote)
Research Assistant · May 2023 – Mar 2024
- Developed a proof-of-concept Instagram crawler with Python and MongoDB to identify self-harm content.
- Utilized the BERT model and PyTorch for aspect-based sentiment analysis of restaurant reviews.
- Publication (HCII 2024): Carlin C.F. Chu, [nom] H.Y. [nom], Raymond So, Andy Chan. Automatic Verbalizer for Extracting Fine-Grained Customer Opinions from Non-English Social Media Comments.
